Hurricanes and storms this time of year on the east coast are a regular occurrence, so on Thursday we got word First Landing State Park was closing at 8:00 p.m. Most of our campers were local so going home a day or two early was a slight inconvenience. I estimate that three quarters of our campers come from a 50-mile radius.
But, for me and my fellow camp hosts Betty Jo and Neal, not so easy. Where do we run to when we live in our RVs?
This happened a few years ago, but my friend Ann was visiting and staying in a nearby hotel, so we had a sleep over.
I could have made a fuss, and possibly the Rangers would take pity on me and let me ride it out. Liability is a terrible thing. The park doesn’t want to have any damage to private RVs, or campground hosts.
Maggie and I packed up and moved to an RV park 50 miles inland. I didn’t unhook and just stayed in the RV park in the rain and wind. I am so lucky Maggie can hold it for 12 hours or wait at least until the rain stops to take a walk. Wish I had the same staying power, but no need as I have my own private privy.
Looking forward to my return and stay at First Landing, it feels like home.

My favorite campground, beach, beautiful private campsites, and shopping at Trader Joe’s, the trifecta!
Come visit, and stay tuned.
