I am so fortunate to have great sisters. While Scout (aka Airstream) undergoes repairs (slowly), number three sister Kerry joined me in central Florida. We visited the historic village of Mount Dora. The highest point in the state raising above sea level a whopping 167 feet.
(Correction: Britton Hill is the highest natural point in the state of Florida, United States, with a summit elevation of 345 feet above mean sea level. Wikipedia). But, Florida is pretty darn flat, and I believe many Florida voters believe the world is also flat. But, I digress.
Kerry joined a group of avid road cyclists each day on a guided ride around the area. We also did a fun kayaking trip in one of many Lake Dora canals. The temperatures were very cool for central Florida, so the alligators were still sleeping, we saw a few small ones. Fine by me.
We stayed at the historic Lake Side Inn, but it was too cold to go swimming in the lovely pool, and the lake has alligators. Why would you live on a lake you can’t swim in?
I have surpassed my rule of “fish and family, three days”. Becky and Chuck were on a fabulous excursion to Morocco when Kerry and I arrived. They will depart again Thursday (3/14) for Wisconsin and Colorado to visit with adult children and grandkids.
My plan is to return to Orlando and pick-up Scout on March 18. Fingers crossed! That leaves me less than two weeks to get my possessions out of storage and back into Scout for our travels north.
April and May, I will be be a golf course host at Hard Labor Creek Golf Course and campground, west of Atlanta and southeast of Athens, Georgia. Free camping and free golf.
June, I plan to visit family in NC and friends in D.C.
July, I return to my favorite campground as host at First Landing, in Virginia Beach.
August I will be visiting sister number four Robin at her home on Long Island, Westhampton, NY. I also have reservations at Indian Island, at Riverhead, NY. Also, one of my favorite campgrounds and golf course. After September, who knows…
Scout Before, and midway repairs.
Stay tuned.
Good luck with the repairs Alison. Sounds like a total hassle. You seem to be taking it in good stride. I guess that’s what retirement does for one — grow patience.
Hi Alison!
I love reading about your adventures! I’m sad you had to go through the troubles with your home-I hope it’s better than new moving forward.
We stayed home this past winter-don’t worry we still have snow-haha. Ken had high blood pressure issues which was solved with a medication but with insurance we would not have coverage if anything happened in the USA.
It saddens me to think of the USA politics-Trump being able to run again but, in Canada we are not much better. Can there not be good honest people in these political positions? I am hoping for Biden! Enough of politics-it’s depressing!
Take care and keep having the best time doing what you love!
