On 11/28/2022, I had left hip replacement surgery. I am feeling great and walking without pain. If a doctor recommends a hip replacement, DO IT! Two years of walking with varying degrees of pain, I should have done it as soon as the doctor said it. “To cut is to cure,” is the surgeon’s motto, they got that right.
But enough. I really don’t care for talking aches and pains, I consider myself a young 69.
I wintered in Florida, because I have friends there and Maggie and I love our daily walks on the beach, especially the dog beach where leashes are not required.
Hurricane Ian wiped out the Atlantic Coast, the ongoing inflation, and Canadians returning after the pandemic boosted prices at campgrounds and RV “Resorts” the winter of 2023. Everywhere was packed and I couldn’t get a spot until March. I prefer to be in Florida all winter. RV Resorts (a.k.a. parking lots with swimming pools) are getting $2,000 a month for a gravel pad with full hook-ups. Florida ain’t cheap and I dislike spending money because of the idiot Governor.
YES, I should be boycotting Florida, but I do love the beach.
This summer I have great campground hosting opportunities. May at North Carolina Kerr Lake Recreation area, J.C. Cooper Campground.
June and July, I am at Jack Hill Georgia State Park at Reidsville, GA. Jack Hill is one of the six state campgrounds out of 49 state campgrounds that have golf courses. I will be a golf course host, free camping and free golf. I hope to play all six courses.
I am considering my next steps. Looking towards 2024 my eighth year on the road, I am uncertain. I worry I won’t like living in one place, but I am getting tired of hook-up and unhooking. Not that it takes much time, it is more the process of packing up my stuff preparing the inside of the trailer for moving, etc. When I returned from a family visit someone had taken my mason jars with solar lights from my picnic table, filled with my Florida seashells. A few less things to pack up. Thank you campground theves.
RVing is not for the faint at heart. Like owning a house something is always breaking. I had to replace the shower value while I was at Kerr Lake. Working on an Airstream or any RV is difficult because of the small spaces you are working in. Anyway, after three YouTube videos, and squeezing myself on to the shower floor. I got it fixed! I am proud of myself when I can do it myself (DIY). Thank you YouTube.
Since owning my Airstream I have replaced the: microwave, refrigerator, ceiling fans, made new curtains (twice), and entry step (twice). Thankfully not all in one year, spread over my seven years on the road.
I am also slowing down on writing this blog. I am feeling this may be my last year, but I don’t now what is nexted. Suggestions welcome.
Stay Tuned.
I think we are all slowing down a bit. It’s gardening time here and it takes me 4 times as long to plant out the garden. I congratulate you on your spirit of adventure. You may be glad to take your house with you at this time of global migration. Happy trails. Kathy
I just saw this post, though it looks like you did a similar post in November? Maybe one option is to trade in the Airstream for one of those very small teardrop trailers so that, wherever you end up, you can still periodically hitch up & drive places & stay in your trailer at a campground, just not full-time with all your stuff? In any case, if you decide that your next step is living in one place, I cast my vote for the DC area so that we can see you once in a while. But, if I’m being unselfish, it seems like you should plant yourself where you have family, friends, and golf nearby, preferably near a beach.
Al! Just seeing this. A good long chat is in order when you are in DC in August! Xo
