It is so very hard to leave First Landing State Park. Beach, camping, and shopping at Trader Joe’s the trifecta of my Road2Reinvention. This was my third-year hosting, and I was in the Archer loop, campsites from 137 – 205. I loved it and was lucky to get September and October, the very best months
My pals Betty Jo and Neil were also back hosting, they are full-timers as well but stay in the Virginia Beach area when not hosting at First Landing. That is what grandkids do, limit your traveling. I am so glad I never had kids and don’t have grandkids. I know this is a very unpopular sentiment, I learned in my teens babysitting for 50 cents an hour I had no interest in children. Especially, since the news and climate change does not give me an optimistic view of the future.
I am currently in Cary, NC waiting for trailer repairs. I may be waiting a longtime. The local Airstream dealer doesn’t answer their phone or respond to email. I knew I was in trouble when I pulled in at 5:30 p.m. last Friday, and the service counter had 20 service orders stacked up. The service people had left for the night, and they are closed on weekends. Yesterday (seven days later) I drove back and sure enough they were swamped. Good thing I did becuase my service wasn’t even in the mix. They “promised” to let me know Monday. Fingers crossed.
Thank goodness for sister Becky and brother-in-law Chuck, I don’t want to wear out my welcome. We do have fun playing our favorite games after dinner, 5 Crowns, SWOOP, and Ticket to Ride. We are a family that loves to play games.
I am paying for a space in Port Saint Lucie even if I am not there, because otherwise I would have no place for the winter. I will be at my favorite parking lot with a swimming pool, a.k.a. Port Saint Lucie RV Resort.
In April and May I will be a golf course host at Hard Labor Creek Golf Course. Doncha love the name? Free camping and free golf, not bad. April and May in Georgia should be nice, not like last summer. It may be my last hosting gig, I am giving serious thought to selling Scout the Airstream, but I don’t know what my next chapter will be.
I worry I will go crazy not being able to move from place to place. I have so many places I haven’t yet traveled to, but who knows. It’s places like like First Landing that keep me on the road.
Stay tuned.
Enjoyed reading your article. I hope your repairs are completed soon. Safe travels to FL.
Take care,
Patty
We met briefly in Asheville years ago…loved following your travels. Walt and I spent 8 years in our RV (how we met you) and decided to land in St. Simon’s Island. My sister’s been here for 20 years so that was the draw. Now that we’ve had our house in Sea Palms West (overlooking golf practice area) we couldn’t be happier. Even though summers are hot, this island is a 4 season recreation area. It could be a good fit for you so if you want to take a break and check the island out…we’ve got a guest room from which you could come and go. Lot’s of east coaster’s and a vibrant community. lemme know
