THREE WEEKS AND COUNTING

Xray of left hip

It has been three weeks and two days since I underwent left hip replacement surgery. Thankfully, I am feeling little pain now and can drive.  The first five days were horrible, but by Sunday (day 6) I was walking pretty much unassisted. I used a cane a couple of days and have been going to physical therapy twice a week.

I am so grateful to sister Becky and brother-in-law Chuck for their hospitality and being my personal UBER drivers the first week. I had to leave my last campground hosting gig at Occoneeche a week earlier than planned, because my doctor had a cancellation and once I decided to get my hip done — I wanted it DONE. The surgeon’s modo is, “to cut, is to cure”.

Scout is undergoing minor repairs at the Airstream dealer in Colfax, NC saving me storage costs. I hope to be back on my Road2Reinvention with my new titanium hip heading south the week after Christmas.

OCCONEECHEE, A BEAUTIFUL CAMPGROUND

I finished my last campground hosting gig of 2022 at Occoneechee, Virginia State Park.

Named for Native Americans who lived in the area for hundreds of years, Occoneechee is on the John H. Kerr Reservoir, better known as Buggs Island Lake, and is popular with anglers and boaters. Facilities include cabins, campsites, an equestrian campground, picnic shelters, an amphitheater, a playground, boat ramps, and a private concession offering boat rentals and snacks.”

There are three campgrounds, B is for RV camping, C consists of 34 sites half primitive (no water or electric) and the other half small RV up to 30 feet.

Occoneechees is one of my favorite places for its sheer beauty and campground size. It was my first-time hosting in November, so the leaves were dropping as well as the temperatures. My duties were to clean fire pits and hang reservation tags and enjoy the park. I wish I were a better photographer, because there are so many beautiful views.

This year the park funished me with a Gator, rather than a golf cart for maintenance. It was very zippy. The fire pits are all on a concrete slab so shoving them out is a breeze.

If you are looking for a very nice campground hosting assignment Occoneechee is a great place to start.

Hope to stay in touch in 2023. My first planned stop after the New Year is Gulf Shores, Alabama state park, then on to Florida.

Stay Tuned.
