SPRINTING ACROSS COUNTRY.

I am traveling across the Midwest, beginning in Asheville, NC. I am writing today from Little Rock, AR. So far my trip has allowed me to catch up with two former colleagues.

Visiting Carol Travis, formerly from the Bay area, formerly from Chicago, formerly from Detroit. Carol was the first woman to become a UAW local union President. An amazing achievement, she worked on the production line at GM, a plant now closed. Carol is the product of the labor movement, unions empower workers, especially woman.

If you have never visited Asheville, put it on your bucket list. Asheville is at the foot of the Smokey Mountains a college town with lots of art, craft breweries, and good food. It is my third visit to Asheville and this time I am staying at a wonderful hilltop RV park Campfire Lodgings, with a amazing view of the Smokies and French Broad River. The sunsets are incredible. The park should be called Hill TOP.

From Asheville I have made several one-nighters, David Crockett State Park, TN and T.O. Fuller State Park in Memphis. Now I at Burns State Park in Little Rock and staying for a few days. This is my second attempt to visit the Clinton Presidential Library, but is closed due to surging virus cases. Last time I was here the Arkansas River had overflowed its banks and the campground was closed. Flood, virus, next pestilence?

At any rate I have been able to catch up with my pal J. Scanlon, and check out Little Rock, which has surprised me as a very pretty city because the Arkansas River runs through it and has several walking bridges.

From Little Rock to Denver, CO, was truely a sprint. I arrived to spend time with nephew David and his wife and boys at their new home in Aurora.

Also I was able to catch-up with a friend from many years ago in Anchorage. Barbara and I lost touch when she moved to France. We met again in Denver. Was great to catch-up.

On to AZ and a warm winter.
