I LOVE DC

I walked out of Joe’s at 17th and H Street NW and hailed a cab.  I was back in my zone, my adopted home, Washington, D.C.  Rasing my arm and hailing a cab, I love that feeling.

After meeting my labor woman for Happy Hour, half price drinks and oysters, I stepped out on a lovely August evening, (very unusual no humidity) in Washington, D.C.

I love a city.  I particularily love Washington, D.C. I lived here from 1999 to 2016. I miss it everyday.

The energy, the sidewalks, hailing a cab after a couple glasses of wine and small plates.  My friends laugh that I return to my adopted home in August.  The worst month of the year, it is hot and humid.  But tonight, was lovely, a breeze and no humidity.  But the energy and feeling of raising my arm and hailing a cab, made me feel like I was home, again.

I am so incredibly fortunate.  Born in Orange, California grew up in Altadena, CA and moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1986.  Woodstock to Happy Days, it was a blast to the past.  But served me well.

I was a borderline student, but ended up in Washington, D.C. as an advocate for workers in the halls of Congress.  I don’t miss the work, but I miss my colleagues and friends, and this city.

I am a news and political junkie.  My labor woman pals all worked to improve the lives of working people and are frustrated by what we see today.

Congress is totally dysfunctional and none of us see any practical or feasible solutions.

We are all glad we are retired.  I am so very thankful for my union pension and Social Security.

P.S. Don’t believe that Social Security is running out of money.  There is an easy fix, raising taxes of the rich.  But, I digress.

I just love being back in my favorite city, in my old hood and with fabulous friends.

I go back to Cary, NC for a family get together and then a wedding in Santa Barbara, CA.  I have not been on a plane since 2017. Yikes!

First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach September 15, to October 31.

Stay tuned.
